Finding A Close Relationship With God

God created people to have a close relationship with Him. When we are not experiencing that close relationship, we feel emptiness in our lives. We may try to fill the emptiness through such things as human relationships, material things, careers, or hobbies, but are often disappointed. This is because there is nothing that can satisfactorily take the place of knowing God or having a close relationship with Him.

The Bible shows us how to find that close relationship with God. It tells us that mankind disobeyed Him, and this disobedience resulted in both physical and spiritual death (separation from God) who is holy (perfect). We are not able to solve this problem of being separated from God; however, the good news is that God graciously provided a way to overcome this separation. The Son of God, Jesus Christ, took upon Himself human flesh, and lived a perfect life (free of disobedience), so that He could be a perfect sacrifice (making up for our disobedience). When He was crucified on the cross, He paid the penalty for our disobedience. Jesus died, and was then buried, but on the third day He rose from the dead, overcoming separation from God, in order to provide us new life.

If we understand that we have been separated from God because of our disobedience, and believe that Jesus Christ came, and was crucified, and then rose from the grave to make up for that disobedience, we are on the brink of a close relationship with God that will last forever. All that remains is for us to put our faith or trust in Jesus Christ and what He did for us on the cross. Once we do this we begin a relationship with God. Through faith in Jesus Christ we are able to live in a way that brings honor to God, is a blessing to others, and fulfills our deep need for a relationship with God.

Would you like God to fill the emptiness inside of you? Are you ready to put your faith in Christ and receive the forgiveness and new life that He has provided for you? Do it today, and experience the joy of having a close, never-ending relationship with God.

If the following prayer expresses the desire of your heart we encourage you to make it your prayer and place your faith in Christ today.

Lord Jesus I need You. Thank you for dying on the cross to pay the penalty for my sins. Thank you also for rising from the dead in order to give me new life. I now place my faith in You and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Amen.
